History
Five decades of paving.
At the time, biotech had not yet been invented and there were limited opportunities for a career in biology — so a biology graduate went into asphalt.
1975
It all started
Jon Beach, a recent graduate of Cal State University Fullerton with a degree in biology, teamed with a friend, David Schafer, who had the idea of starting an asphalt paving company.
1982
Key people join
David Schafer moved on to start another business, and City Service Paving gained key employees: George Puente, another Cal State Fullerton graduate; Keith Cunningham, from Permacast Asphalt; and Darrel Brown, from New Covenant Paving.
Today
A third generation
Over 25,000 paving jobs completed across Southern California. Some of our employees have been with us for more than 40 years, and we are now a third-generation company.
